Racism is one of the hardest social issues to solve in our society. It has plagued society for so long but it has gradually become a smaller and smaller problem in recent years. This is due to the world we live in today as it has become more accepting and less discriminating. But, racism is still not solved as in some parts of the world it is still a big problem. So, what is racism? Why is it so hard so solve?
Racism is the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior. Racism can occur to anyone in any part of the world. It does not matter what race, financial status, or influence you have. Racism can be one of the most mentally scarring moments a person can experience. It makes you want to change as a whole but you can’t because it is who you are.

So, how do we solve this problem? This seemingly horrible issue of our society that has plagued us for years. For me, we do not to change anything in our society but our mind sets and attitudes towards other races and people. I say this because I see racism as a problem that is caused by the people’s minds. Unlike other problems that involve the government to solve, racism can be solved by just changing yourself. You can actually solve a problem just by changing your attitude. In this problem, you are really the answer to it. But it is harder said than done, people have been trying to do this for years but some will just not change. It is okay however because we are not always able to achieve something fully.

To end, I believe racism is a problem that can really be solved in the near future. All we have to do is change our attitudes. I say this because we can gradually see it now in the world where it is more accepting and less discriminating. We just have to keep this going and eventually racism can be solved by us. I believe we can really do it. There is a saying from St. John Baptist de La Salle that I believe is very true and motivational in solving problems in life especially racism, “Be the change that you want to see, the change that begins in me.” Always remember that saying.
